The Foundation in Neonatal Care (FiNC) programme is an 8-week hybrid learning experience designed to provide the essential knowledge, skills and professional behaviours required to begin a career in neonatal care.

Through a combination of self-directed learning, live interactive virtual teaching via Microsoft Teams, and face-to-face study days hosted across London hospitals, you’ll develop the confidence to deliver safe, compassionate, evidence-based care to babies and their families.

Who is the programme for?

FiNC is suitable for healthcare professionals who are new to neonatal practice, including:

  • Newly Qualified Nurses
  • Nurses New to Neonatal Care
  • Internationally Educated Nurses
  • Transitional Care Healthcare Professionals
  • Nursery Nurses
  • Nursing Associates

Whether you are taking your first steps into neonatal care or expanding your existing practice, FiNC provides the educational foundation to support your professional development.

Teaching is delivered by an experienced multidisciplinary faculty, bringing together clinical experts from across London. Throughout the programme, you’ll benefit from high-quality teaching, practical insight, and ongoing support from professionals working at the forefront of neonatal care.

Programme Requirements

To successfully complete the programme, participants are expected to:

  • Attend all taught sessions
  • Complete all required learning activities and assessments
  • Actively engage with both online and face-to-face learning

Successful completion of the programme demonstrates your commitment to developing the fundamental knowledge and skills required for neonatal practice.

University Accreditation (Optional Work-Based Learning)

Nursing participants ONLY may choose to enhance their learning by completing an optional Work-Based Learning (WBL) module with one of our university partners, enabling academic accreditation (additional university fees apply).

If you are considering this option, please discuss it with your Practice Educator before applying, as enrolment is completed directly through the university.

Nursing applicant please note:

  • ODN Pathway: The WBL module is optional
  • University: London South Bank University
  • Start Date: 29th September
  • Registration: Available on the Medtribe platform
  • University Pathway: Completion of the WBL module is mandatory for those who wish to access the Specialist QiS module through LSBU or and alternative university
  • Cost: £530
