This guidance has been designed to provide supportive information to neonatal units on the different types of parent support groups that can be made available to families, and other service user groups you may have contact with.
Also includes advice to assist healthcare professionals in implementing, restarting, and facilitating these groups.

This Framework offers multiple new recommendations threaded throughout and there are themes intertwining; therefore, it is essential that it is implemented in its entirety. No subsection can be applied as a standalone concept. Neonatal outreach into the community should not be seen as a separate entity but as part of the continuum of neonatal care delivered across the country.

NHS Race and Health Observatory outlines challenges in neonatal care for Black, Asian and minority ethnic babies, alongside clear recommendations on tackling them. Tests and assessments that indicate the health of newborns, moments after birth, are limited and not fit-for-purpose for Black, Asian and ethnic minority babies, and need immediate revision according to the NHS Race and Health Observatory.

The review also highlights particular concerns around perinatal practices including the assessment of cyanosis and jaundice.

This guideline sets out the population suitable for the use of standard PN, practicalities of using the regimen and a standardised approach to managing biochemical and metabolic derangements during PN use as well as weaning of parenteral nutrition while advancing enteral feeds.

The 2018 guideline was based on the SCAMP intervention regimen but was not the exact formulation or delivery method as in the original trial. Since the original SCAMP PN guideline, there have been many advances in both research and clinical practice, including publication of the NICE guideline Neonatal Parenteral Nutrition in 2020. The London Neonatal Nutrition Group (LNNG) have always strived to follow the evidence base and felt this should be reflected in an updated guideline.

Policy and practice drivers are all in alignment, and the future of NHS procurement, technology and safety, demand an urgent change from the standard weight-based approach to standard concentrations, which are proven to be safer and more efficient for patient care.

This guidance sets out a standardised London-wide approach for In Utero Transfers (IUTs) of babies at <27 weeks gestation (<28 for multiples) or with an EFW <800g. These transfers ensure delivery in a unit with appropriate neonatal care, reducing the risks associated with postnatal (ex-utero) transfers.

A tool for triage, decision making and transfer documentation

This tool has been developed to assist in the triage and risk assessment of patients when local units plan to undertake a transfer. The document allows for an accurate and clear record of planning (risk assessment) & discussions, to support the referring unit and documentation & checklists to support the personnel undertaking the transfer.
