What is a psychologically informed environment (PIE)?

This is an approach which thinks about everything we do on our neonatal unit, and everyone who is involved on the unit, staff, families and babies. Psychologically informed care should be the foundation which sits underneath everything we do, every conversation with a family or a colleague, every policy and procedure, everything we do.

It is about the relationships we form, the understanding we have about people’s needs and behaviours and how we put use evidence-based practice. Ultimately it is about compassion at every level of the system. To find out more about this, please do talk to the hub psychologists who will be visiting you units in the new year to think about how we make units more psychologically informed.
