SLT – Strategic Projects Underway

Jun 25, 2025

While many of our key projects are still in development, here’s a look at what’s been keeping us busy and what’s coming next!
Work in Progress – Strategic Projects Underway
We’re excited to share updates on several key initiatives currently in draft phase. These reflect collaboration across units and our continued commitment to improving outcomes for babies and families:
  • Identification and Triage tool for unit SLTs
To support earlier and more consistent identification of infants at risk of short and long term feeding and speech, language and communication needs.  London SLT are working with national colleagues

  • Review of SLTs Data Metrics
We are two years into collating data for Ockenden funded SLTs. We are reviewing the success of our national neonatal SLT data metrics and considering opportunities for the next phase by consulting with unit SLTs in London and data management specialists both within the ODN and SLT field.

  • Contribution to the new edition of Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing
Delivering nursing education is an integral part of the role of ODN SLT. London ODN SLT alongside Rebecca Murphy at Kings College Hospital are contributing to the fourth edition of this book, sharing information about the feeding and communication journey for babies and their families on the neonatal unit.

  • Developmentally Supportive Feeding, Language and Communication Practice
As part of the wider Pan London Developmental Care Guideline, the ODN SLTs in collaboration with unit SLTs have been busy creating a practical guideline for supporting not only developmentally supportive feeding, but also language and interaction on the neonatal unit.
