Psychological Professionals in London

Category: Spotlight On

Psychological professionals are clinical psychologists and psychotherapists. Currently we have a psychological professional in most but not all of the units in London, but many have a very small amount of time and a huge desire to be helpful.

Psychological professionals work with babies, families, staff and teams to support wellbeing, mental health and the development of psychologically informed, compassionate and mindful care. We have a series of e-learning modules which look at the role with babies, families and staff and are designed for all  neonatal staff. Please do check them out here: Psychologically-Informed Neonatal Care – elearning for healthcare (e-lfh.org.uk).

If you’d like to know more about what we do and how we can support in your unit, you can watch our recent Bliss webinar here: Bliss webinars | Bliss (scroll down to ‘previous events’ to find it).

We now have senior psychologists in ‘Hub roles’ overseeing one area to provide expert support and guidance to psychological professionals and their units. They are Kirsty for NCEL and Alanna for  South London. We hope to appoint to the NWL post sometime soon. Kirsty and Alanna are continuing the roll out of trauma informed care training with regular face to face training days. They are also taking over the Community of practice which we hope will include PNA nurses in the future. We are also starting to think about how we benchmark psychologically informed environments as a precursor to thinking about how we  enhance the experience of babies, families and staff through compassionate, connected and psychologically informed care.

Please do get in touch if you want to know more about any of the work we are doing e.atkins4@nhs.net.
