London Neonatal SLTs met in March to discuss in-patient pathways to facilitate parents to support early language and communication needs at the neonatal stage. This has been a focus for SLT for the last five years, but even more so now we are striving to move from sickness to prevention in healthcare with rising numbers of children needing Speech and Language Therapy in the community. Babies and families receive variable provision based primarily on funding, with those units with more SLT presence by being able to prioritise supporting early language and communication.
