Parent support groups are held every Thursday from 11:30am to 12:30am with the unit Psychotherapist, a therapist, and a senior sister are available for families.
Target study ongoing with fathers on some afternoon’s in the month by a registrar and nurses.
Unit Facilities
The Homerton NICU has a family kitchen outside the unit for families to use with storing food, tea/coffee and to have their lunch.
There is a family waiting room based within the ward with lockers for families to keep their valuables.
There is an expressing room with capacity for 4 mothers to express, and for them to sterilise. They are also welcome to express at their babies cot side.
Special Care has capacity for 6 mothers and babies to room in the bay prior to going home and to establish breastfeeding.
The unit has 3 family rooms, 1 double and 2 single with on suite showers for those babies who are out of catchment area and those babies who are sick. These rooms are offered on a daily review basis.

Unit Services
Homerton Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is one of the largest level 3 neonatal services in Pan London. The service delivers: medical intensive; high-dependency and special care; retinal laser surgery and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) referral and treatment service; and therapeutic hypothermia for term asphyxia in a population of high-risk babies from within Hackney and beyond.
Homerton NICU has 46 cots: 16 intensive care (ITU) cots, 8 high dependency (HDU) cots and 22 special care cots
The Homerton is one of three level 3 NICUs in the North Central and North East London Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (NCNEL ODN). Of the three NICUs in the NCEL ODN, Homerton’s NICU provides the highest volume of medical neonatal intensive care within the network.
UNIT ACCESS AND VISITING
Parents have a 24-hour visiting policy.
Grandparents are allowed between 14:00-18:00pm with parents.
Siblings are currently not allowed.

Homerton has a Chaplaincy Team. Parents are welcome to request for a faith leader to be arranged.

The hospital has a snack vending machine, Costa and WH Smith’s based at the front entrance. The restaurant is called Chatter’s located on the 1st floor.
Times are the following:
Breakfast: 07am-10:30am
Lunch: 11:45-14:15pm
Supper: 17:30-20pm
There is a cashpoint available in the Chatter’s restaurant with free cash withdrawals. The restaurant also has a vending machine for both snacks and hot food.
