Trauma-Informed Care for MDT – initial session

This trauma-informed care (TIC) training draws heavily on both the Trauma Informed Care literature and more widely on the Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE) literature, aiming to give all staff psychological models that they can draw upon and directly relate to their practice.

You may already have an understanding of trauma but this training introduces the TIC model, specifically how it relates to neonatal care, the medical profession, and thinking about service development. There is already a strong evidence base for trauma-informed care, and if you need to justify your attendance on this course, it is worth saying that trauma-informed care makes a difference to clinical outcomes and to tackling health inequalities.

Trauma-informed care is also an approach that recognises that many families who experience health inequalities have a history of trauma or of other challenges which increase their risks of struggling during and after a neonatal admission. Developing an awareness of the trauma informed care approach across our units in London aims to support all families, particularly for those families marginalised or struggling to get the support they need for themselves and their babies.
