Parent support group

Our parent peer support group is currently in development.
The Rainbow Trust provide a sibling activity group alternate Thursday 3pm-6pm.
The Mother’s Union provide ‘Tea at 2’ every Wednesday in the parents’ room, this is an informal drop in with tea, coffee and cake provided.

Unit Facilities

The parents’ room has tea, coffee facilities, microwave and fridge. There is a play area for siblings, a dining area and a lounge area for parents. Snack bags are available daily at reception for parents.

There is an expressing room available with the required equipment for expressing, including hospital grade pump, disposable expressing sets in 2 sizes and sterile bottles for milk collection. Breast pumps are available for loan if required.

There are 3 quiet rooms on the unit which are used for both parent and staff needs. If a parent needs a quiet space this can be requested with the nurse in charge.

There are 3 ‘rooming in’ rooms with adjacent bathrooms. Here parents can stay with their baby for a couple of nights to prepare for going home. These rooms can also be used if a baby is unexpectedly admitted to our unit and parents need a short-term place to stay while alternative accommodation is arranged.

We have a Ronald McDonald House close by, where accommodation to families who live outside of London is available. The team here will make a referral on the family’s behalf.

Unit Services

This is a level 3 unit. We provide intensive care and accept referrals for babies that require surgery or other specialist treatment including cardiac, renal and neurology among others.

Parents are welcome to be present on the unit at anytime. Siblings can accompany a parent at any time. We are only able to accommodate 2 people at the baby’s bedside at once.

Parents can have a further 4 named visitors come to see their baby while in the neonatal unit. They must be with one of the parents to be able to see the baby.

Faith Leaders & Chaplaincy

The chaplaincy is a confidential service available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, emergency to all patients, families and carers. They offer help on all aspects of pastoral, cultural, spiritual and religious care to members of all faiths and beliefs as well as people who have no particular religious belief. The team can contact the chaplaincy upon request.
